We had booked three nights at the Albright Hussey, travelling with friends on one of our frequent jollies. On the morning we were to travel, my wife was unwell, so we suggested our friends went ahead and we would follow on under our own steam, either that day or the following. Bare with me. This is relevant.
We were actually able to set off with a four hour drive ahead around midday although my wife was still not too well, On arrival, our friends having acquainted the management of the circumstances, we were met by Paul, who could not have been more solicitous assuring us that, in the circumstances, he would not have charged us for the room if we hadn't made it that day and arranged for my wife, at her request, to have a light meal in our room that evening, while I dined with our friends. The way we were treated was exemplary and, fortunately, my wife had fully recovered by the following morning so we were able to enjoy the rest of our break,
After having been treated so well, it pains me to give anything but praise in regard to our stay and indeed there was nothing terribly amiss. It was just that, in some areas, the hotel was a little lack lustre. The rooms were adequate. Our friends had a suite in the original part of the hotel which was reasonably spacious but, they told us, not particularly convenient. The four poster jaccuzi, (yes, really) was not really appreciated. We occupied a cheaper, smaller room which was better laid out but didn't have much natural light, Nevertheless, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom a decent size with a good shower.
Food was not an issue. A good choice of well prepared dishes served by attentive and friendly staff. Breakfast was above average on two mornings but fell short on one morning when it was presented on a DIY basis from hotplates, never a good option. The wine list was well thought out and the prices reasonable.
It's fair to say that we enjoyed our stay at the Albright Hussey as a one off but I don't think any of us will be rushing to return there.

Room was just about acceptable in terms of size, with about enough room for two chairs and a small side table, along woth double bed, dressing table and side cabinets. The bathroom was again only just big enough to incorporate bath, toliet and basin, which was disappointing for a four star hotel charging more than £100 for b & b. The appearance of the bedroom can best be described as "bland" with what appeared to be stock prints in heavy gilt frames displayed throughout.

The bed itself was comfortable and add ons such a trouser press, tea and coffee making facilities were present but we were glad we were only staying for one night, for which it was satisfactory.

Just returned from the most fantastic weekend, Paul Owner/Manager was extremely attentive. Staff excellent. Room out of this world. Stayed in The Royalist Suite, breathtaking. Food fantastic and Breakfast perfect. One of the best places I've stayed. Will definitely return! 😀

Clearly some trouble has been taken to improve this hotel and it does have some lovely architectural features. That said, what a disappointment. It is fusty, musty and smelt like an old folks home, or hospital. We wondered if it was a polish they were using but it was very overpowering and not pleasant. Many windows frosted and shut - and when we did see one open we could see why as it overlooked a very derelict area. From the front though it is charming. The bed was comfortable and whilst the room décor was not to my taste it was obvious that time and care had been taken it putting it together. Service was no more than adequate though this was not due to the staff, rather the lack of them.
Food was good though fixed menu so repeat visits not really an option for us.
Wi Fi available though poor and has to be asked for rather than access being given freely.
this falls into the class of a typical English hotel which needs to be dragged into the 21st century.

We attended a family wedding here on Saturday 4th October 2014 and i would recommend this venue 100% for any couple looking for a place to hold their wedding. The beautiful 18th century hall was perfection in its self, The outside wedding setting was amazing with the flowing stream and black swans. The staff were probably the most helpful and friendly people I have come across nothing was to much trouble. The wedding supper and evening BBQ were outstanding.

Any place that welcomes guests is only as good as the people who run it and work there. EVERYBODY at the Hussey were more than this. We didn't want to leave, and that includes the dog. We could not fault anything, and to top it all, the food was exceptional. We hope to return next year.

We had a lovely overnight stay. Staff were very welcoming especially Malcolm. We stayed in one of the suites in the old part of the hotel and it worth paying the extra money. We had a fantastic meal in the restaurant and again staff were excellent. Would recommend this hotel and will be returning.

Marvelous stay at Albright Hussey Hotel in Shrewsbury. We had dinner there on our way to Scotland and enjoyed the experience so much we booked for a nights stay on our way back to London. The staff, headed by the marvelous Malcolm, were friendly and helpful and the Royalty Suite in the oldest part of the hotel was a wonderful experience.

The hotel was not difficult to find and the surroundings were good too. Despite a wedding taking place during our stay, we were not impacted by it and were taken to our room that was away from the noise and wedding guests, but not far from the main reception - so best of both worlds. Our room (No. 7) was very well decorated, spotlessly clean and a good size for the money. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful. The only fault was the smoke detectors going off twice in the evening (in close succession) due to other guests showering and steam setting them off (possibly because they didn't have the extractor fans on - can happen anyway and has happened to me elsewhere before too). I would recommend the hotel and it is in easy reach (by car) of the town centre.

My daughter got married at The Albright Hussey in July, and the day was perfect. The hotel was excellent, the staff extremely helpful and considerate, especially to my 90 year old mother, who stayed for 2 nights. The wedding which was outdoors, was very special, the food very good, and the day was stress free, well almost. Little touches from the staff made the day go smoothly, and they certainly know what they are doing, real professionals. Many thanks.

Stayed here for my sisters wedding all I can say is Wow. Such a beautiful day from start to finish. The staff here are excellent and so friendly. The man who was serving at breakfast who I think was the manager was so bright and cheered up a rainy morning after a beautiful wedding.
We stayed in the piggott suite and the room was absolutely gorgeous I loved the Historical surroundings. I also got to spend some time in the Hussey suite where my sister was staying and it was absolutely beautiful perfect for the married couple to spend a wedding night.
The grounds are lovely and its a great location to explore Shrewsbury if you are visiting.
Food was lovely and breakfast was included with the room it was very nice.
The room was £120 which is fine for the beautiful surroundings and for a special occasion. I would stay again if I was celebrating something special.

First visit to this lovely hotel, brothers wedding. It was fabulous. Food (we are veggies) was lovely and the staff couldn't do enough for us. The service was held outdoors and was very romantic, sorrounded by lovely gardens. So many picture opportunities at this hotel. Lots of character and atmosphere. Evening party was full of energy, food and music fantastic. Would highly recommend this venue for any event.

We love this place and this is due to the care and consideration of Paul and his staff.
Clean rooms, laundry etc, nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff and they always exceed expectations.
Food was beautiful, hot and delicious, including the breakfast.
Thankyou for yet another unforgettable experience xx

We stayed here for 2 nights for the wedding of our daughter at the hotel. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds are absolutely stunning. There is even a little playground area for the children. All of the staff at the hotel were professional, friendly, and very caring. Their organising of the wedding was faultless, both beforehand and on the day.
The rooms were spotless and the ladies who looked after them were lovely. The cheery helpful team at breakfast were a joy, and our baby grandson loved them. The same team also did a fantastic job of preparing the tables for the wedding, it looked lovely.
To Paul, Terrie, David and all of the staff you were amazing.Thank you.

I stayed at this romantic, historic manor hotel when I attended a family wedding. On my arrival I received a lovely warm welcome and throughout my stay nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. On the eve of the wedding I had dinner with others in the wedding party, superb food of a very high quality. The wedding reception was held here and again the food was delicious. This was one of the most memorable weddings I've attended, a historic hotel in a beautiful, romantic setting. Thank you for making this such a special day for everyone.

My husband bought an unusual place to stay activities store voucher for me for Christmas. (Not that unusual he's bought it for me three times now) and again we decided to opt for the Albright Hussey. We stayed in room 11 on Sunday 15th July. It is a good sized, well presented, well equipped en-suite room above the reception. The bed is a high (had to take a run up to get onto it lol) comfortable and clean with lovely bedding.
We booking to eat in the restaurant and yet again we were impressed by the service and the quality of the food.I don't understand the negative comments about the service. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

We stayed here for one night only while returning from Snowdon. We had a lovely welcome and check in. We ate dinner in the restaurant and it was first class. Breakfast was beautifully served, cloth tablecloths, napkins, real butter and a lovely full English.

I visit the restaurant regularly and cannot fault the food or service, although it is quiet in the week and lacking in atmosphere. My negative comments concern the charges of £7.50 thrust upon me for the return of a special umbrella which was a present and quite dear to me. It was taken off me by one of the staff as I arrived and when I left he neglected to return it to me. I fully expected to pay the postage for it's return, but not be hammered with a £5 handling fee. Totally out of order! My lovely memories of happy occasions are now soured and I have no wish to dine there again. What a way to treat your regular customers! The hotel needs to re-think it's customer relations and customer services.

Had a lovely couple of nights stay recently when our Godson got married here. Decided to stay an extra night before at the last minute and the hotel staff were very accommodating. There are lovely gardens and a lovely view. Had a good size room with bath and shower en-suite. Very attentive, friendly staff. Had an excellent meal in the restaurant on the first night that is highly recommended. We thought that the wholepackage was very good value too. The wedding arrangements were well organized with a ceremony held in the garden. Thank you to the Albright Hussey Manor staff!
