Charming Hotel. Fabulous building with many historic features. Lovely room with 4 poster bed. Staff helpful, friendly and attentive. Quiet location, good night's sleep. Food was delicious and the ambiance in the dining room is just wonderful. I do hope we can come back here again soon.

My family stayed here for the first time and we were all very surprised at how nice it was.
My sister had booked it and we arrived to find a beautifully presented hotel with charm and character.
Check in was very quick and our rooms in the new wing were of a good size, nicely decorated and full of little touches such as cotton wool balls, sewing kit and sweets, not to mention home made biscuits. Surprised only 1 dressing gown in each room.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and use of local produce extended to breakfast.
All staff were very friendly and welcoming. Excellent value and would most certainly visit again.

Just returned from this hotel & found it absolutely charming, and full of character.

Very quick check in & room was lovely, just the right size & temperature.

Unfortunately didn't stay for dinner as was fully booked but breakfast was delicious.

Will definitely recommend.

This is a charming small hotel with the most attentive staff I have come across. They seem very passionate and do everything necessary to please. Rooms are decorated in a dated and tired fashion. Carpets are old and there is a poor temperature control between bathrooms and rooms. Dinner menu is very limited and does not complement the hotel's star rating. You can pay £30-£40 a head for dinner when the hotel stay will cost you just £70. They could do with expanding their lunch and dinner menu and offer more variety and different price bands.
Room sizes can vary, some adequate and some very small. Carpets need a good cleaning. Overall you pay for what you get in here. I recommend it for the price but maybe go out to eat if you want more variety. Rooms feel insecure as there is no extra lock or chain on the doors from inside. Rooms are not soundproof and if someone talks in the hallway you can hear them very well.

This hotel could be summed up in one word: 'characterful'...both in terms of the building and the owner.

It was such a nice change to travel on business and stay at an independently owned hotel - one where the staff were courteous but were allowed to express their individuality and behave spontaneously rather than adopt 'the company patter'.

Some of the décor was not to my taste, but this was a personal opinion and there were so many pluses: spacious room, a restaurant steeped in history (15th century I believe), superb food, and a conspicuous owner with a real sense of humour and attention to great service.

Definitely recommended.

Was actually in February 2015 as a birthday gift. Hotel room as luxurious and in style with the keeping of the hotel. The meal (a seven course) was amazing and we had the drinks package which not only complimented perfectly but was competitively priced too. The breakfast was great as well couldn't fault it at all.

Stayed for 1 night during the week. Large room which was clean & tidy with 4 poster bed. Bathroom was decent size with an excellent shower. Dressing gown was a bonus.
Ate in the restaurant that evening, food was lovely, staff attentive and lovely environment. Breakfast was equally enjoyable. Look forward to staying again.

Attended friends wedding and stayed overnight. The service and friendliness at this hotel is exceptional. The venue and setting is perfect for a wedding. I found out the night before our stay that I had messed up my booking. We stayed the night in the annex and had the best night sleep I have ever had in any hotel. Thank you Dave you are a lovely guy and very helpful.

Superb venue. They delivered 60 wedding meals absolutely spot on. Most were fillet steaks and to serve them quickly and hot and pink and succulent and perfect is excellent. Loved the venue the staff and the food. Richard and Judy stayed in our room the night before and stay quite often apparently so if it's good enough for them that's a good enough for me.

This hotel has face! The staff are friendly and informative. The food is exceptional and the service is 5 Star!!!. Malcolm's customer services skills are one of best I've encountered and it rubs off on the staff. Well done team Hussey!!!. Almost forgot about the rooms!. Clean, comfy, quiet and free wifi.

Very friendly welcome, we were shown to our room personally and asked if there was anything we wanted. The room was spacious and the bed large. The price was reasonable and the room was relaxingly quiet (we had stayed in the town a few months ago and the price was similar to the town and noisy!). The food in the restaurant was excellent, definitely worth the 2 Rosettes and well priced. All the food was listed in the room and where it came from, mostly local. Also the wine list was comprehensive, well balanced, a good selection and good quality, also a good selection wines by the glass. Also from a local wine merchant. The staff were friendly and very efficient. Javier deserves a particular mention. A hotel I would certainly recommend.

Couldn't fault the service or the friendly reception I received on arrival. So many hotels fall down on this vital part of the guest's stay, but no issue here! The room was spotlessly clean, and the restaurant experience was lovely. Food was well cooked and very tasty - dinner and breakfast. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here. The only reason I scored 4 and not 5 is that whilst the hotel is charming, with great service, it's décor and furniture is a little in need of refreshing in some places. Perhaps that adds to its charm, who knows?

Stayed at Albright Hussey last year for a family wedding close by. The meal was so good during our stay, we thought we'd give it another try as we wanted something special for a birthday celebration. We were not disappointed. We had the five course taster menu and every course was so tasty and beautifully presented.

The service from all members of staff was exceptional.

We will definitely be visiting again!

We needed a room for me with access and facilities for me as I'm disabled. I found the staff very helpful on booking in.
The room was clean and linen fresh. A couple of small issues were noted and they plan to fix. Along with many other hotels, the complimentary biscuits did not include any gluten free offers. A few herbal teas would also have been nice.
The dining room staff were exceedingly helpful and knew which food was OK for me to have. They also made sure we were comfortable and treated everyone with kindness and respect.
The food was good, however puddings were low on gluten free and I had to have the same on the two days we started. The meals were very expensive and I'm not convinced the price matched the standard of food, which although good they lacked the special touch. The was a large function which may have affected that.
Breakfast had few options for gluten free, no cereal and the toast arrived cold. The first morning we had the scramble egg and salmon which was very nice. However the second morning we were pointed to a hot food stand and told it was buffet only... Anyone needing a gluten free diet will tell you that buffets are a definite no due to the inevitable cross contamination.
I had to make do with two slices of toast and some fruit the waitress had kept aside for me as I have allergies to pineapple and strawberries (neither of these are seasonal not local by the way).
The surroundings were beautiful, the gardens showed off the two black Swans to their best and despite the rain it was cheering to see these from the dining room. The dining room had a wonderful as already mentioned and the seating was spacious and the lovely little hidey hold for the two of us was great fun.
The lounge was not welcoming and had a stange feel of being thrown together at the last minute.
Most of the staff were very helpful but we felt let down by the brusk attitude if the breakfast waitress which the insincere 'thank you soo much' were clearly seen through. The evening waiters were above and beyond and much appreciated. Especially when we had guests for an evening meal where they placed us well and genuinely helpful.

Just got back from a 2 night New Year's eve package. This was our 4th New Year's Eve at this hotel, and the stay is always a pleasure. From the arrival to our departure, the staff and their attention to guests' needs was excellent.

We had a 3 course dinner on the first night, included in the package. A hearty breakfast in the morning, followed by a 6 course New Year's Eve black tie dance to welcome in 2016. There are many guests who come back year after year, so the hotel proves it's doing the right things! The firework display was very good, as usual. The 6 course dinner was cooked very well, considering the number of covers they had to cater for. The staff work tirelessly, and again was able to serve me a raspberry sorbet instead of the iced champagne course. Our room was the Royalist Suite (room 4). It is a massive room together with a large bathroom. The bedroom has a large 4 poster bed and plenty of storage space for clothes. The bathroom has a shower over the Jacuzzi bath, with plenty of toiletries and towels.

We have already booked the room for next New Year's Eve!

If you plan on visiting historic Shrewsbury and want a bit more style than a chain hotel in town, and better value than an extortionate boutique, this is your place. Its an original 16th Century Tudor Manor House, with a fantastic chef an hospitality team on site. It even has a Moat. And its own Black Swans! I almost feel guilty telling Trip Advisor about this place, I half want to keep it to myself!!!

Rather surprised at the last review, and yes, it probably is because you are from London! We stayed here on an overnight stopover from the West Country dropping our son back to Liverpool Uni and it looked a great place to make a break on the journey home. Restored by the owners with an obvious passion for preserving an ancient manor house with loads of history whilst also building a profitable business, that's just the way it is, even in London. The older parts of the building offer fabulous suites where everything is as it should be and our room, at the top of a winding staircase, had a very comfortable bed, good bathroom facilities including a jacuzzi bath and triple aspect over the surrounding Shropshire countryside. Along with quirky alcoves on the stairs, comfortable bar area and a very atmospheric restaurant full of eye catching architecture and pretty moated gardens to sit in if the weather was finer, I could think of a lot worse options that we may have opted for. Service was proper and restrained, wine list with good choices to fit most budgets and the food excellent and not pompous, followed up in the morning with a very good quality breakfast and very happy with the total bill for the privilege of staying in such a wonderful old manor house. I can't comment on the more modern extensions but, suffice to say, we travel most weekends and this is most definitely a place we would make a point of staying at again.
