Great place to stay, feels like home. Shirley & Chris are great, so friendly. B&B is spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds. Plenty to choose from at breakfast, so never leave hungry. Very convenient location, close to National Archives, short distance to tube and Kew Gardens. Couldn't ask for better.
I stayed in my favourite B&B last weekend, Shirley Royle's B&B in Forest Road. I love Shirley's attic room :-) As always, a really warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble for Shirley and Chris. It's the ideal base for any visit to London, it's close to Kew Gardens and the National Archives - just around the corner . Both the underground and rail station are a short walk away, if you want to venture further into London. Good company and plenty to eat at breakfast time. See you in October, Shirley!
My family and I were given a very warm welcome by Shirley. The rooms were very comfortable and the facilities were excellent. Shirley was a great landlady and we were shown very warm hospitality. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast.
I could not find a better place to stay! I went to Kew Gardens to study and stayed in her house for two months. It was the best house to stay in Richmond: it's a very clean, very nice, confortable, and calm place. Excellent breakfast, a dinnig room that you can use all day long, very confortable bedrooms and awesome shower. Five minutes walk from National Archives, Kew Gardens and Kew station. And the most important: Shirley and Chris are very friendly and they made me feel part of their family, and it was priceless. =)
This B&B was my favorite of all those I stayed at in England. Shirley and husband Chris are very caring and competent people. The first thing I noticed was how remarkably clean the place looked and smelled. There is a dining room downstairs that tenants can use all day long, so one can go out, buy food, and come back to the house and heat it in the microwave and eat in the dining room. This meant a lot to us, as eating out can get very expensive, not to mention, tiring. The breakfast is ample. I loved having fresh coffee, two kinds of juice and fresh fruit every morning. They were also considerate enough to get me skim milk for my milk sensitivity. The bathroom has a fresh, modern look. The bedrooms are well furnished. I really appreciated the small desk and the dresser! Space is tight, but that is the same in all the B&Bs; I stayed at in England. What makes this place extra special is Shirley and Chris. They will help you with your travel difficulties, if you need. Sometimes the non-English visitor can have difficulty making reservations on line and Chris was always willing to help. If I ever get back to England, I will call Shirley and Chris first. And by the way, I really liked the flat pillows. They give you two, if you like more height, but I like flat pillows!
Shirley Royle and her husband, Chris, are very responsible people. I stayed in this house in October '12 (one month). It's a very nice, confortable, calm and tidy place. Excellent breakfast. Nice neighbourhood. Well connected. They are 5 minutes walk from the National Archives. I really keep good memories from them. They are lovely. From Spain.
My husband and i have stayed at Shirley's B+B on a number of occassions now. Always a friendly welcome, we have stayed in almost every room and each bedroom is comfortable and very clean . The bedroom in the loft means you have to navigate alot of stairs, but im sure if you explained to shirley if you had problems with mobility she would book you into one of the other bedrooms. The continental breakfast is superb,. Both Shirley and her husband have a wealth of knowledge of the area and even offered us use of their season ticket to visit Kew Gardens! Now that is service. We will be back again and have recomended the Bed and Breakfast to friends who have had similar experience on thier visits.
Stayed in October 2012. Nice location, proprietor friendly, answered all pre-booking communications swiftly; spotlessly clean & tidy, rates reasonable; well decorated & good modern bathroom facilities; relaxed atmosphere. Nice B&B in a pleasant district.
Only minus was the lighting (green rear attic room) was a little harsh - too many small spotlights, & the pillows were a bit on the thin side.
My son stayed with Shirley Royle while doing some studying at the National Archive which was 5 minutes away, he said brilliant location, easy and quick from central London. Good room, great continental breakfast, kept him going until lunch time which is saying something. Shirley was so welcoming, friendly and helpful, good recommendations on where to eat,she even let me know he'd arrived safely, a very personal touch, would definately use this B & B again.
My husband and I stayed at Shirley's B&B in October 2011, it was central to everything we wanted to do - the National Archives Kew was a short walk away, as was the Kew Gardens Village where we could select somewhere to have dinner or shop, this is where the train station is as well. If we turned out of Shirley's gate and took the opposite direction, a short walk brought us to some shops, a pub and a resteraunt. I just loved Shirley's house, it is a credit to Shirley and her husband, they were friendly and willing to give us tourist information, relaxed atmosphere. I have stayed at a couple of B&Bs near the National Archives but to me this was the best.
Shirley and Chris Royle have given us a service and attention that one thinks does not exist any more. The thoughtful and warm-hearted attention we have received is without parallel and we can not thank our host enough for all we have enjoyed.
Lotte and family
We stayed here for 3 nights and was made very welcome. Shame about the close vacinity of the rail line, bit noisy early in the morning, by the third morning that noise was made non-existant compaired to being under the flight path for aircraft landing at Heathrow, obviously the wind must have been in a different direction to the previous nights.

We stayed with Shirley Royle and found it a very good experience. When Shirley found that we didnʼt drink tea or coffee but had peppermint teabags with us she went out and bought some more specially for us. Nice one, thank you Shirley.
We also found that Shirley has a number of long-term and repeat guests. One of them told us he had stayed in a number of other local B and B and considered Shirleyʼs house to be the best. We could see why. Best for friendliness, being helpful and a really good breakfast without cooking.
Weʼll come again.
