Are employees entitled to paid leave on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee?

Tuesday 5 June 2012 will be an extra bank holiday to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The late May bank holiday will be moved to Monday 4 June, to allow for a four-day weekend of celebrations.

Full time employees are entitled to minimum paid holiday of 5.6 weeks (or 28 days if they work 5 days each week). However, employees do not have a statutory right to take holiday on a bank holiday. Whether they are entitled to the extra bank holiday will depend on the terms and conditions in their contract of employment. Read full article here
