Thoughts for Mother's Day when there's so much good food around!

Luckily I've sampled some delicious food in lovely places recently, that I thought they would be great locations to take the family to, bearing in mind Mother's Day's coming up and you may be looking for ideas.

There's so much to do in the city with an overwhelming choice (we are so lucky); so here's a simple list of 4 totally different kinds of places to visit...

1)For a special lunch, the Brasserie at Malmaison in the Oxford Castle would be an interesting experience anytime. The setting is truly unique, the attention to detail just what you'd expect from the trendy company and the food and service just fab! The smoked salmon starter was divine...go and choose your own meal. You won't leave feeling hungry!

After a mooch around town, to work up another appetite of course...

2) how about a lovely afternoon tea at Greens Cafe on St Giles? Like the name suggests, it has a strong attitude towards organic and Fairtrade food and drink, but don't let this put you off. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed, with seating upstairs. There's a wide range of tasty teatime treats and drinks; a particularly good choice if anyone in the group is sensitive or allergic to ingredients, such as gluten. The ethos of the cafe runs through all aspects; coffee comes from one farm, for example and has a clean, fresh taste. Even their electricity is 'green'...but that's for another conversation.

3) for something a little more exotic, try Spice Lounge on Banbury Road in Summertown. With its contemporary setting, friendly attention, enjoy a lunchtime buffet or evening meal. Simply the best naans I've ever tasted!

4) Finally, enjoy an ice cream at any time of day at any of the G&D cafe/ice cream parlours in town. Pop in and buy a couple of tubs to take away, or stay a while - the Cowley Road site is especially spacious. Super smooth, rich and delicous, with an imaginitive range. One scoop won't be enough; you're bound to want to try a few (or am I being greedy now?)!

However you spend March 14th take time out to savour a moment of sharing and indulgence (... OK kids?!)
