The origins of the band date back to 1974 when it was formed as the North Hykeham Concert Band.

In the early days there were few adult players and a nucleus of children. This changed in 1983 when the band was ready to enter contests and concerts. It was reformed as the Foss Dyke Band.

The band's fortunes in contests has varied but in 2014 and 2015 it achieved notable success and qualified to represent Lincolnshire and the Midlands at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

The band is engaged each year to perform in Lincoln Cathedral, often to a capacity audience of 1,500 and has played in the Parish Church previously so knows the wonderful acoustics of the building. The band, uinder its Musical Director Simon Oates, will play an eclectic programme of new and traditional works aimed to entertain. It features newly commissioned solos including works by Caccini, Vaughan Williams and Henry James.
