For this year’s Remembrance Day and to commemorate the centenary of the First World War The Royal British Legion and Forces in the Community are organising the ‘Run of Respect’ to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal and to improve the lives of local ex-service personnel and their families. On November 2nd a team of Veterans and serving personnel will commence the run of 100 miles over 10 days visiting a minimum of 42 war memorials around the county, finishing by 11am on the 11th November. At each memorial a wooden cross will be left as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives fighting for our freedom. Routes are listed on our Facebook page.

Forces in the Community work closely with The Royal British Legion to improve the quality of life and prospects of local Veterans. We deliver employment support and guidance, housing advice, mental health support and also reduce social isolation. Our clients range from 18 - 90 years old. Over the last year we have helped over 60 individuals gain employment, 26 find suitable housing and over 100 improve their confidence, self-esteem and general mental health. Most of our clients served during the Second World War, N Ireland, the Falklands, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

We are looking for support/sponsorship from local businesses that will benefit from promoting themselves locally and also supporting the Poppy Appeal, a local charity and local people. We will be running various routes throughout Nottinghamshire with the ability to advertise and fundraise en route. A safety car will be behind our runners at all times.

There is an opportunity to sponsor the run by purchasing a Bronze, Silver or Gold package per day or the single Platinum package. This is a fantastic chance to both promote your business and help those in need.

Also on Friday 14th November 2014 a ‘Tribute to the Troops’ concert is being held at Nottingham Forest. The evening’s entertainment includes several professional singers, many of whom have performed with household names, a hot buffet and a raffle/auction. Tickets are available for £22.50 from the Events team with all proceeds going to support both causes.

Donations also via our JustGiving page www.justgiving.com/runofrespect or for more information regarding the run is available www.facebook.com/runofrespect
