Sound Advice From Harborough Police Watch Out For Oportunist Burglars Now The Warmer Weather Is Here

With the current warm weather set to continue for some weeks to come, Harborough Police would urge all residents to pay some attention to their home security.

At night and during the day, criminals will often cruise around an area looking for windows and doors that have been left open. Having identified their target it takes only a minute or two to pop inside and help themselves.

As such we would encourage all our watch members to be vigilant to this kind of crime and to remember to close windows and doors both at night and when you go out during the day.

Even if you are inside your home or in the garden, close any windows and doors in parts of your home that you cannot see or hear. Opportunist thieves will often risk entering a home, even if the owners are inside, as they know they can be in and out again in a very short space of time.

Items such as hand bags and car keys are particularly attractive to the opportunist thief as these items are often left close to a door for convenience. Leaving these items in view of windows or insecure doors is an open invitation to the burglar.

Please spread this message to as many people as possible, by doing so you may well prevent a crime happening to your friends and neighbours.
