A new approach to music tuition, Room for Music gives kids of all ages the opportunity to learn to play the music they love. Focusing on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, vocals and music tech, the experienced Room for Music team provides hands on tuition and support for beginners and the more experienced in a weekly workshop setting.

We spoke to Room for Music creator Mike Heaps, a Market Harborough based musician and father of two. He told us: ‘Most kids, if they have their own instrument, teach themselves to play the basics but I want to give them the opportunity to collaborate and build the confidence to play live. Room For Music also gives them chance to try out instruments before deciding which one’s right for them.’

While the RFM team, made up of experienced musicians and teachers with backgrounds in production, live performance and studio recording may bring expert knowledge to the table they also know how important it is that kids play the songs they love and so are encouraged to bring along their own ideas for performances:

‘While traditional one-to-one tuition is based around set pieces, Room For Music is all about building enthusiasm. We let the kids set the agenda while giving structured tuition with the final aim of live performance and internationally recognised qualifications.’

Beginning this month, Room For Music will run workshops for three groups (6 and under, 7-11, 11-18) with each given access to musical instruments and equipment, meaning the only cost to parents will be the course itself. Courses run on Monday and Wednesday at the Methodist Church Lounge, Northampton Road LE16 9EH (opposite the Market Hall, free parking).

Two free try out sessions will take place this half term:

Monday 22nd October, Methodist Church Lounge, 6:30pm – 8:00pm (all ages)

Wednesday 24th October, Methodist Church Lounge 4:00pm – 6:00pm (all ages)

Room For Music also provides corporate and party packages.
