Newcomers to Market Harborough (by Julie Crofts)

After living in a Northamptonshire village for over 20 years, we finally made the decision to move to Market Harborough - a place we had come to know and love over the years.

What impressed us about it was that, although a town, it still has the feel of a village; the people are friendly, many say ‘hello’ or ‘good morning’ to you and also, the town centre - how nice to see such a mix of well known shops together with many varied, independent businesses.

Our new house was ready to move in on the 27th of March 2015.  We had looked at quite a few properties but it did not take us long to settle on the new development on Farndon Fields:  Just behind the great Farm Shop, 15-20 minutes walk into town through the beautiful Welland Park and lots of lovely shops, bars and restaurants to choose from.

We have settled in nicely - we joined the gym at the leisure centre, where we soon made friends in the fitness classes.

Just some of our favourite things?

  • The lovely walk through the fields from East Farndon to Lubenham and back into the town.
  • Sunday mornings - we stroll to the shop for the newspapers and walk into the park for coffee at the cute little park café
  • Sitting in the rose garden in the park in Summer
  • Local events such as the food & drink festival and Arts Fresco.
  • Walks into town, with coffee at Insomnia (below the library).
  • Lunch at Rock Salt or Ascoughs
  • The Friday nights jaunt into town with cocktails at Louisa’s and dinner at the fabulous Avatar Indian and Nepalese Restaurant!

We have settled in well and made some good friends.  Next step is for my husband to join the golf club which, I’m sure will bring another dimension to our lives.

There is plenty going on in the town for retired people like us and all ages too; we have not yet explored all the possibilities but look forward to joining some of the clubs and groups in the near future.
