June 11th – Harborough; the pavement pounds to the sound of tiny feet. Its toddle power ... and all in aid of little Madie Brooks (aged 4) and her challenge to raise £1,000 for Rainbows Children’s Hospice.
Says Madi’s father – Oliver Brooks, “We were all determined to raise over £1,000 for Rainbows. Rainbows provide Madi with respite care and have looked after her ever since she was born. The support they have given to us as a family as well as to Madi has been incredible and we felt that it was time for us to give something back.”
Upon reading the news, the Brooks family were inundated with offers of help including Madi’s pre-school Little Acorns. Says Maggie Sparks, Manager Pre-school, Little Acorns, “We wanted to help Madi and her family and so we arranged a sponsored toddle. The toddle took place on the 11th June and we are pleased to say that we raised £300. The money will go towards Madi’s goal of raising £1,000 for Rainbows.”
Oliver, Emma (Madi’s Mum) and Madi also took part in the Rainbows ‘Walk of Life’, a fifteen mile walk around some of Leicester’s parks. The walk took place in June and has so far brought in over £50,000 from a mix of walkers sponsorship, corporate sponsorship and on the day fundraising. Says Oliver, “With the last minute generosity of Harborough businesses and individuals, plus Little Acorns fundraising, we will raise over £1,000. Madi’s thrilled, I’m thrilled and I know that Rainbow’s will be delighted.”
Supporters included the local Doctor’s surgery, Willows Nursing Home, the local Co-op, Madi’s nursery - Menphys in Wigston, the Harborough Mail and the local Post Office.
Says Nicola Adcock, Fundraising Manager at Rainbows, “Without people like the Brooks family and their supporters we wouldn’t be able to carry on doing the work we do. We are delighted at the amount raised. Thank you so very, very much!”
