Bogus Advertising Sales Pretending To Be Working With The Police

This is a message to all Watch members and Key Individuals from Harborough Police.

In recent weeks Leicestershire Constabulary have been made aware of several incidents of sales persons approaching business owners in person or by phone – trying to sell advertising space in a magazine and claiming to be working in partnership with the police.

Harborough Police would urge all business owners to be cautious if approached in this way because as far as we know, no such publication exists and as such this is strongly suspected to be a scam. By dropping the name of the “Police” they may be trying to instil a feeling of confidence in potential buyers to make them more willing to part with their money.

We are keen to trace the individuals who are using this method so if any of you are approached and can let us know any information at all (a physical description, phone numbers, vehicle details etc) please do let us know.

Please pass this message onto as many business people as you can – your assistance is truly appreciated.
