Five Ways To Prevent Tooth Decay:

  1.  Brush 2 x a day with Fluoride toothpaste – Fluoride reacts with the surface of the enamel and strengthens and helps 're-mineralise' it.

  2.  Use an electric toothbrush – my personal favourite is the Oral B iO range – The round head on an electric brush pulsates and rotates faster than we can manually, for a better clean, but is also gentler on the gums than manual brushes.

  3. Use fluoride mouthwash in the middle of the day – This helps neutralise any acids and gives the enamel an extra boost of protection. Acid levels weaken the enamel and allow holes to start
    .
  4. Reduce the frequency of sugar intake, and swap the drinks for water – Give the mouth a rest and let the saliva neutralise the acids.

  5. Spit, do not rinse – Last thing at night after brushing, spit the excess toothpaste out, - do NOT rinse with mouthwash or water. Leave the toothpaste covering the teeth overnight.
