McKenzie’s Restaurant in the heart of Lichfield, is on the first floor of the old Corn Exchange, originally built in 1849 along with the Market Hall below, a two-storey brick building in Conduit Street, designed in a Tudor style by Johnson & Son of St. John Street, was erected by a company formed for the purpose and was opened in 1850.
McKenzie’s Restaurant, opened in November 2014 by experienced restauranteur Mark McKenzie Maltby who, together with customer centric staff that have been loyally with him for a number of years, offer a wide range of culinary experiences.
With a gallery coffee lounge area, popular for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the shopping scene, overlooking the bar whilst enjoying the shortbread and range of coffees produced in-house, is a relief to those tired shopping feet.
The main restaurant area, with its original oak beams and 19th century features, offers a relaxed spacious arena to enjoy the fine fayre, such as freshly prepared brunch, which lends itself to the great Summer Prix Fixe Menu, great value at just £10.95 for two courses or £15.95 for three courses available through the week, ideal for that quick lunch or easy dinner.
Pamper yourself with afternoon tea at £13.00, great value and has a Scottish twist which gets everyone talking.
Their core menu is steak, but not just any steak, supplied by royal warrant holders - Aubrey Allen, they only stock British Beef and are Dairy free herds, it is evident that they know what a great steak should be, and how it is best cooked.
Vegetarians are catered for with dishes to tempt such as Porcini Mushroom Risotto, and the Arancini balls, served with green mayonnaise is enough to whet any appetite.
There are a number of things that separate this restaurant from the branded chain restaurants, which is why they were voted thebestof UK Business of the Year in 2017.
The ingredients are local where appropriate, freshly prepared down to their bread and they know what they have in every dish, as each is created in-house from basic ingredients.
