Our first visit to Lichfield &, therefore, the cathedral, arriving just in time to join the Highlights Tour presented by Graham, who proved an extremely knowledgeable & interesting guide.

Stunningky beautiful building. It's much bigger than we expected. Voluntary donation to look round or a small fee for a guided tour. Some amazing historical books and artefacts. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Went on the 11.00 am guided tour which was supposed to last 50 minutes. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and obviously totally in love with the building. Fully recommended.

Haven't been here since I was a child, so thought I'd visit again & it's still a stunning cathedral. Beautiful inside, & the grounds are wonderful too, nice & clean, where you can sit & have a bite to eat. There is a small donation, if you want to. People are so welcoming, lots to look at, & read about, worth a visit.

When you approach Lichfield Cathedral you can't help but be awed by the sheer size and intricacy of the outside of the building. The carvings are amazing and you can spend a long time just looking at the outside, it is magnificent. I haven't given it 5 stars due to the fact that the day we went we wanted to go on the tour but it had been cancelled due the cathedral being full of schoolchildren who were there for the full day. This also meant that we couldn't go into one of the chapels. I am all for children being taken to places like this to do their learning but as we were unable to go back it did spoil the visit for us just a little.

A convenient car park at Beacon street car park just 200 metres from the cathedral.
Externally it is a very striking building. Quite dark and foreboding on an overcast day with a multitude of religious figures in the front and sides of the building. Internally it is beautiful. The stone-work, dark woods and wonderful stain glass windows, just stunning. Some cathedrals open to the public have a sterile commercial feeling, not here, it seemed warm and welcoming. Many interactive boards with touch screen information on the cathedral, it's history, bishops and saints. No entrance fee but you'd be particularly mean not to pay at least the £5 minimum donation.
