we only went in for a peek and were entranced with the place. A local school were practising carols which really added to it.

From the moment we arrived and were warmly welcomed, we enjoyed our visit. This is the second time for us, last time the Staffordshire Hoard was on show so we didn't get to see some parts of the cathedral. Some of it has come back, and the guide in the room was very knowledgeable and friendly.
This place is well worth a visit.

It is absolutely lovely on the outside and not so bad on the inside. The leaflet we used to take us around could have been more interesting, I wished I had taken one of the ones geared for children, perhaps I might have found more information To upgrade their rating I would suggest they revisit their leaflets and give a little more history. Look at Lincoln, Hereford or Worcester Cathedral for examples.

Although I live in Birmingham I had never been to Lichfield Cathedral before. I decided to catch the train from New Street, this took me to the centre of Lichfield. Each Saturday there is a small open air market which you will pass on the way from the station to the cathedral. The outside of the cathedral is amazing, As you enter the cathedral there is plenty of literature including a free information guide. Housed at the cathedral are St Chad's Gospels (an 8th century Gospel Book), also the Lichfield Angel which is a piece of medieval sculpture dating from around 800AD. Overall well worth visiting. There is also a very nice souvenir shop . Plenty of local cafes.

I'm not an avid fan of churches but every now and then you find yourself at a loose end in a town with a well-known one and so I go, slightly dragooned by the management. Well, this one is fascinating inside and out. The stone colour is remarkable, particularly on a bright day and the interior is handsome too. Definitely worth making a special trip for.

If the choir are rehearsing it's an added bonus to the splendour that's expected from such a fine building, allow about 2 hrs, the park and town centre are close and easy to get to.

Stumbled on Lichfield whilst on a business trip. The Cathedral is extremely beautiful. The admission is free, although donations are gratefully received. Their are guides who will show you around. We walked around ourselves and found the leaflet given to us on arrival explained what everything was. Well worth a visit
