This is a truly remarkable building. The exteriors is so ornate it must surely be one of our finest cathedrals.
The interiors is also fascinating. To visit is free but they gently ask for a voluntary donation.
If you are ever in Lichfield I absolutely recommend visiting this. The location is also great and there is a lot of interesting places nearby too.

It goes without saying that this is a stunning cathedral, inside and out, and well worth a visit at any time. However, if you can arrange your visit to coincide with the guided tour conducted by Linda Hoskins you will have your pleasure and knowledge lifted to another level. Linda is not only a fount of information, she will show you how to 'read' the stained glass windows here and in other cathedrals and churches. And the stained glass in Lichfield is incredibly beautiful, as is the rest of the building. It has such peace in this troubled world.

An outstanding example of an early English Cathedral, many memorable features : the stone carvings defaced by Parliamentary soldiers sharpening their swords, possibly the earliest Anglo Saxon carving in this country, examples of the amazing Staffordshire hoard discovered nearby in 2016, the unique Lichfield Gospels. 16 century Flemish stained glass windows Opportunities for a quiet retreat......much more. Small fee for photographic licence, but no entrance charge (donations welcomed) Small, interesting shop opposite in the Close and a variety of refreshments at Chapters in the Close.

A great medieval cathedral with three spires (the only one in the UK with three spires). A nice peaceful place to go and see the architecture.

Just a wonderful place to visit, immaculately kept. The pieces of treasured items from the staffordshire hoard and the gent that tells us about them is intriguing. I always come at Christmas for the Carol service,it is a special place.

Not too keen on the outside front of this cathedral but that's a personal dislike of red sandstone heavily ornamented with figures and crocketed spires, but it is outstanding, certainly. Inside it is fabulous. There is a lot to take in. The windows are wonderful, not just those in the Lady Chapel which have just been restored and supplied with a clever touch screen information panel, but those in the war memorial chapel, the South Transept and St Chad's Head Chapel up the narrow stair. If you can hear the organ play, that is well worth it - particularly with all the stops out. Entrance is free (donations encouraged, of course, but not enforced). There is a friendly reception and you're given a ticket to record the numbers of visitors each day, plus some information leaflets. There is a small shop near the exit door but a larger one across the Close. The cafe and lavatories are down the road a short walk from the building. Guides are on hand to lead tours and help with queries. A part of the cathedral is dedicated to children's activities - there were quite a few there when we visited. Wonderful flowers, too.

Stunning and definitely worth a visit. The meet and greet at the entrance was such a loverly touch. So helpful to have people standing by to give you some knowledge around it. The touch screens are also a great idea.

This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals that I have visited AND with no admission charge. I am very happy to make a generous donation but any House of God should be free to all.
We were welcomed by a volunteer who gave a brief description of the history of the cathedral and answered any questions we had. We felt very welcome.

We visited after meeting with family. The front of the cathedral is fantastic with all the statues of kings from the past.Inside is beautiful, especially the stained glass windows. When we were there candles were being lit to remember those killed in Nice. If you like old buildings then the cathedral is definitely worth a visit.

First visit to Lichfield Cathedral as the Ukulele Orchestra of Britain was playing there. The cathedral is full of atmosphere, beautiful stained glass windows, soaring ceilings, interesting woodwork. The altar is a focal point. A superb venue which is obviously very versatile and attracts a variety of events. Set in a quiet area which adds to the atmosphere. Easy parking nearby

As a resident of Lichfield I'm proud to have such a wonderful historic building on my doorstep.
It's always worth popping in and admiring the architecture and sheer scale of the building. My favourite part is the regimental chapel. If you visit then don't forget to look up and see the regimental colours from centuries past. And of course paying respect to all the soldiers that have bravely fought and died to protect the realm.
After visiting the cathedral then maybe pop into The King's Head for a drink and bite to eat whilst soaking up the atmosphere of the pub where the original regiments were formed.

Went here as wanted to view the Anglo Saxon exhibit, which was really interesting and the guide in there was incredibly informed about the subject and really brought it to life. The cathedral itself is stunning both inside and out and the stained glass windows were beautiful.

If this cathedral was in Paris there would be queues and charges but it's in Lichfield so it's quiet and free. Go and see it, take your friends and appreciate everything!

Great cathedral. Stunning stained glass windows and artifacts. Part of the cathedral was cordoned off for the Lichfield festival. I would like to go back and see that part of the cathedral

My wife and I had wanted to visit Lichfield Cathedral for some time, but never got round to it - - until now! Travelling south to St. Albans, recently, we decided to stay overnight in the Lichfield area and visit the Cathedral. We decided to do the visit the before we went to our hotel. On arrival we could see two of the spires over the tree tops, but were greatly impressed with size of this place of worship and its spires on standing outside, it is immense! The twin spires reminded me of Cologne Cathedral! It is, apparently, the only medieval three spired Cathedral in the United Kingdom. The Cathedral is situated in a beautiful close surrounded by wonderfully picturesque buildings. The peace and quiet in this area compliments the spiritual quiet inside. Inside it is, and I think this word is normally overused, awesome, and it is! My wife and I sat for some time in prayer. We also lit a candle or three for friends! The visitor can also appreciate the Cathedrals very structure that holds up the ceiling and spires, fantastic! Take a look at the outside walls and you will see all sorts of symbols and statues. However, it is important to note that parking is at a premium in the area, with lots of double yellow lines but there is a car park nearby, next to a supermarket, only a few minutes away. However, you can drop off disabled visitors close to the Cathedral but must park elsewhere. The visit is free but donations, for the continual upkeep, are most acceptable! I have visited a number of Cathedrals, over the years, but this is now my favourite! My wife and I will most certainly return there, and hope you, the TripAdvisor reader, will do the same!

Lichfield cathedral is a wonderful place to visit, the treasures of the chapter house are a particular highlight with the beautiful and ancient St Chad's gospel, still used in special services today, as well as parts of the Staffordshire hoard on display. There are treasure hunts for the kids which were great for getting their attention on to the building and the history, as well as a small section where they could play. The cathedral was also setting up for the Lichfield festival, I wish I'd known it was on beforehand as the programme looked great. The tea room across the street is also outstanding with wonderful home-baked cakes and a lovely peaceful garden out the back. The quiet contemplative mood of the cathedral extends across the centre of the town and it's beautiful Georgian close.

Lichfield Cathedral is what makes Lichfield a city. And it is beautiful. A fantastic example of ornate and intricate decoration. It is huge. Beautifully preserved and perfect for either the keen photographer, artist to study or just as i do go there for the serene tranquil atmosphere. You just can't fail to be impressed by it's beauty.
