Gorgeous museum, so much to see, kept my 7 year old occupied all afternoon. It's free, they take donations but I didn't see a card reader, which would make that easier!Visited on

Visited Hertford Museum just by chance and was very pleased with how nice the place looks. It's small but very neatly organised. Loved the garden bit especially. They were doing arts and crafts during our visit which we very much enjoyed. Will be back👍Visited on

Brilliant information but could do with an accessibility review. It's not all about lifts and wheelchairs/ pushchairs, but also about interaction with exhibits, info panels at 45 degrees, and environmental conditions for the neurodiverse.

My teenage children and I liked it.
The museum is not big, cozy, interesting. We will definitely come back again!

The museum includes a range of exhibits including those related to the birth of the town and the Hertford pubs. The pubs, then known as Inns, once totalled 25 in 1620. At this time Hertford had more coaching inns that anywhere else in the country and with terminus for 5 coaches going to London, this makes sense. Of these Inns only 3 survive today. There is also a cool model of the castle and a Jacobean Knot Garden.
Entrance is free but donations are appreciated.

Outstanding local Museum. It brings Hertford's past to life. Very good temporary exhibitions. Also very good booklets on Hertford's past. Produced in house.

A superbly curated display of local history and spirit of local people. Having visited the museum, we found walking in the local streets a lot more interesting as we are better informed.

Had low expectations from a small museum and was impressed by the content and presentation. The write-ups about local resistance and protest movements were interesting. Liked the audios by local people about wartime and other topics. Some good mid-20c artefacts and everyday items were good and nostalgic. Thought my visit would be 15 minutes but spent an hour and will go back again as there is more to see and read. Altogether quite an ikoressive little museum.
