The Fanny Davies International Piano Series seeks to cultivate a deeper appreciation for piano music among both existing and new concertgoers.
Described as a pianist with 'nuance and perfect flexibility’ (Revista Arta), South Korean-British pianist Victor Lim has performed worldwide to great acclaim. He is currently Director of Piano at Roskell Academy.
At St James, he performs a programme called 'Laughter and Crying', in which he takes us on an emotional journey through attractive gems of the piano repertoire, including Liszt's 'Un Sospiro', a Fauré Nocturne, and Schumann's Humoreske. Schumann's music is always raw and emotionally spontaneous (he suffered from severe mental health issues, survived a suicide attempt, and ended his life in relative isolation in a private asylum). While writing this Humoreske, he wrote, 'All week I’ve been sitting at the piano and composing and writing and laughing and crying, all at the same time".
Please drop in at the free workshop and don’t miss the chance to chat with Victor after the concert.
The evening will feature an art exhibition by local artists Nelli Begg and Gill Harrison.
