Waitrose Are Looking to 'Buy Local' In Guernsey
10th September 2010

Waitrose are right behind the 'Buy Local' ethos and are seeking local suppliers of produce, products & services for their two new stores opening in Guernsey in early 2011.

Commerce & Employment are organising an event on 22nd September at St Pierre Park Hotel from 9am to 5pm, for local suppliers will have the opportunity to meet the Waitrose buyers and food technologists first hand about what is involved in supplying the supermarket chain.

Sourcing locally grown products was a huge part of Waitrose's overall strategy, with the belief that customers want easy access to the best quality food and drink from the island.  They understand that the Guernsey public want shops to reflect their community and to support small local businesses.

The buyers will be looking for businesses that can supply produce which has been grown, reared or produced in the island including fruit and vegetables, fish, meat and dairy, bakery products, beverages and flowers.

They will also be looking for local businesses that can supply the following products / services:

General labour and building, mechanical and electrical materials, suppliers and contractors, security and fire equipment suppliers, as well as cleaning (including drains) services.

To register your interest or to make an appointment to meet the buyers please contact Jennie Gill at Commerce & Employment before 13th September to receive a supplier profile form indicating if you are registering for 'Produce and Food' or 'Produce and Services':
