One of Guernsey's longest running and most established nursery and preschools has just undergone extensive refurbishment and expansion with the addition of a new pre-school building and beautifully landscaped gardens and play areas.

Sunshine Nursery & Preschool, based at Cordier Hill, previously accommodated 60 babies and children but with the new preschool building will now have space for another 30 children.

Proprietor, Rachael Hockey tells us how the new building and gardens will improve the facilities at Sunshine and help offer a new level of care for their children:

'The newly refurbished 2 storey building for Sunshine's pre-schoolers has allowed us to rejig the toddler and baby rooms to create larger and more varied spaces for all our children from aged six weeks to five years.

We would love all parents, current and prospective to come and see the full facilities, private car park and large purpose-designed play area and garden. Anyone is welcome to arrange a visit with us at anytime - we are always happy to show them around.

We are also now offering an early 'Breakfast Start' from 7.30am to add to our other regular 'After School Club' and 'Holiday Cover'.

With 18 qualified staff providing full or part time care all year round, we can offer a complete environment where your child can benefit from an up to date educational structure whilst enjoying a safe and caring family life environment.

At Sunshine we allow children to learn at their own level and pace. Our well-established curriculum follows the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' which is also used in schools, so enables a smooth transition for each child when they move on to primary school.

If your child loves being outside, they will love our large, new gardens which provide four areas of play and development. There is a large grassed area where babies can safely crawl and explore, an astro-turfed area which can be used whatever the weather, a wood-chipped area with tables, seats and a large play house, and a planting and growing area.

The children absolutley love digging and seeing things grow from seed and this year we have grown an abundance of flowers and food including sweetpeas, sunflowers, courgettes and tomatoes. There are also bug trails and plenty of areas for children to investigate and learn about insects and nature.'

If anyone would like to visit the nursery or preschool please telephone 720063 or 07781 154927 for an appointment.
