Mercury - The Voice of YBG
1st April 2012

Last Thursday saw the launch of Mercury Magazine - an aspirational non-profit magazine created for and by the Young Business Group (YBG).

The purpose of the magazine is to:

  • Promote YBG and help increase and build on its strong membership
  • Give YBG members a voice and the opportunity to promote themselves and their companies to the business community
  • Inspire and encourage entrepreneurial spirit in Guernsey to better our island

Why Mercury?

"Mercury magazine was named after the winged messenger of the Gods, who was also the God of trade. He's been smiling down on us at YBG for the last 50 years and we hope he'll be smiling for many years to come."  Carl Stanford - YBG President.

It's a non-profit quarterly publication, covering a wide range of subjects from the diversity of local industry to the world economy, and from current affairs to interesting, colourful lifestyle issues that are relevant to the business minded.

Mercury is published by Two Degrees North, printed in full colour on high-quality environmentally friendly paper, beautifully designed with carefully considered content and is designed to enlighten readers to the very best of the highly entrepreneurial local business scene.

The content of the magazine is created and written to capture the minds and imagination of the island’s young business community, entrepreneurs and business leaders of the future.

"We really care about the social and economic wellbeing of our island and the importance of entrepreneurial spirit.  Hopefully Mercury reflects this passion and will encourage more people to join YBG and get involved."  Rory Inglis - YBG Past President.

Mercury has been distributed across the island so make sure you pick up a copy.  YBG hope you enjoy reading the first issue as much as they have enjoyed putting it together and are keen to hear your feedback.  To request a copy please email president@ybg.gg

Next Issue:
Issue 2 - Have you got what it takes to be the boss?

YBG - 50 Years Young:

Formed more than 50 years ago by a collection of Chamber of Commerce members, the aim of the YBG is to enable younger or young at heart members of Guernsey's business community to get together informally.

The group has members from every background, covering many business sectors.  YBG meets on the first Thursday of each month holding a lunch, dinner club or networking event providing members with an opportunity to chat informally, make new business connections and friends and enjoy talks by topical speakers.

Each year YBG business members are encouraged to apply for the Bill Green Award for Entrepreneurial Spirit which recognises innovation in business and demonstration of entrepreneurial spirit.  Best of Guernsey business member Focus HR Solutions were last year's winner of this prestigious local business award.

How to enter:  Application forms are available on the YBG website and this year nominations close on 1st May and the winner will be announced at the YBG Summer Ball on 15th June.

Upcoming YBG Events:

Dinner Club - Thursday 5th April at Oatlands Restaurant
Guest Speaker: Kathy Tracey - Managing Director of The Learning Company

Wine Tasting / Networking - Thursday 3rd May at Escalier

Lunch Club / BBQ - Thursday 7th June at Moore's Hotel
