Guernsey will play host to Milton Morrissey’s production of the award winning 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' next month and Guernsey youngsters have the chance to perform in this fantastic musical.

Fronted by pop sensation Chesney Hawkes and supported by a local choir of over 100 children, an experienced West End cast and orchestra will perform at The Sir John Loveridge Hall, Beau Sejour from 7-11 September, including Saturday and Sunday matinees.

Creative producer and Guernseyman Paul Morrissey, of Milton Morrissey Productions, is appealing to local singers between the ages of eight and 17 to come forward and sign up to take part in what could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to star alongside West End performers.

"Quite simply we are hoping that Joseph will be the theatrical event of the year in Guernsey. We've pulled out all the stops to assemble the best cast, orchestra and creative team direct from the West Ends biggest shows. Chesney Hawkes and Zoe Tyler will lead a company of over 200 people including a huge number of local children who will form part of the integral Joseph choir".

"Following the successes we've had with Les Miserables, Cats and Buddy we are absolutely delighted to return to the Island with what is undoubtedly one of the world's best loved musicals!"

"As you can imagine it is not a simple exercise putting together such a huge production and then transporting it all to Guernsey, but it is something that James (Milton) and I are both passionate about, having had such a close affiliation with the island over the years.  We hope that as many islanders as possible have the chance to witness this first hand".                     (Paul Morrissey)

Co-ordinating the volunteers are Brian and Catherine Webster, Principles of the Guernsey Academy of Theatrical Education (G.A.T.E) who already have around 30 local children officially signed up for the choir.

“Unlike their UK counterparts local children rarely have the opportunity to get involved in professional West End shows such as this.  For Guernsey children to be given this chance is just incredible.”  (Brian Webster)

Mr Webster said that they could accommodate another 100 children who they would rotate over the performances throughout the week if demand was high enough.

“Paul has gone to huge lengths to involve islanders in his productions, and even though he is based in London and running a very successful production company he is still willing to bring a full blown West End show to Guernsey.  The fact he is doing this for the island is highly commendable.”

'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' opens at the Sir John Loveridge Hall, Beau Sejour Leisure Centre from Wednesday 7 September and will run each evening until the closing night on Sunday 11 September including Saturday and Sunday matinees.

The local choir will rehearse at Western Community Centre (Styx) during the last two weeks of August before the Musical Director of the show, Andy Smith, comes over to work closely with the children on Monday 5th.  The orchestra and cast will arrive on Tuesday 6th and on Wednesday 7th September there will be a full dress rehearsal in the afternoon before the show opens that evening.

“To have the chance to perform with the likes of pop sensation Chesney Hawkes, well known singer and presenter Zoe Tyler as well as many other renowned West End actors is a great opportunity and I hope as many children as possible will come forward to take part."  (Brian Webster)
