Buddy Comes to Guernsey - Interview with Paul Morrissey  (Cont'd.........)

6) When they auditioned did you have parts in mind for them or did you just want to see what talent was out there?

We knew we wanted the locals to play the surf ballroom singers - the backing singers who appear on stage with Buddy, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper in what was to become their last ever show.

7) Are you taking part in Buddy or just producing it?

I'm not even nearly talented enough to join these guys. They sing, dance, act, and play a hundred instruments! I'm fine just producing this one!

8) If you were taking part in Buddy, which part would you want and why?

Buddy I suppose. Not even because it's the title role, but because Buddy's story is so fantastic. The young man with glasses has been described as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll”. His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians and exerted a profound influence on popular music. Rolling Stone ranked Holly no.13 among "The 50 Greatest Artists of All Time" and all this by 22! His tragic and untimely death was such a sad day for music. It’s incredible that 60 years later, the legend still lives on.

9) Can you sum up what the audience should expect to experience when watching Buddy in one sentence?

Audiences will experience the story of arguably the most influential rock 'n' roll artist of all time in a brand new and spectacular arena production filled with the greatest rock 'n' roll anthems of 50s including PEGGY SUE, TRUE LOVE WAYS, THAT'LL BE THE DAY, LA BAMBA and JONNY B. GOODE.

10) What is the next project in the pipeline for Milton Morrissey productions after Buddy comes to the Channel Islands?

We're currently putting the pieces together for our first UK National Tour of the Screen adaptation of the movie 'BIG' - which starred Tom Hanks as the 13 year old boy who wishes he was Big!  The Broadway musical will tour the UK for 26 weeks from 14th Feb 2011 starring Strictly Come Dancing winner and star of Waterloo Road and Holby City, Tom Chambers!

Finally 11) Which is your favourite Buddy song and say why in 3 words?

OH BOY- EXCITING, ENERGETIC and ANTHEMIC!!

The Best of Guernsey would like to thank Paul for taking the time to answer our questions and wishes you and your team all the best for Buddy.  It sounds like a production - not to be missed!
