Speed networking is the business version of speed dating!

It's fun, energizing and an effective way of meeting the most people in a short amount of time. It provides the opportunity to talk to people you may not otherwise come into contact with and allows you to quickly decide whether there is a mutual interest without the need for awkward conversations. Perfect for business people new to networking too.

Why is speed networking so effective?

Traditional networking may sometimes not be very productive because people often gravitate towards those they already know. Some find it awkward to approach an absolute stranger. Speed networking is the ultimate ice breaker. In the initial meeting, each person provides a quick overview to describe themselves and their business. It is a great way for strangers to meet with almost no pressure or stress. The model of speed networking allows people to meet and chat for a scheduled amount of time, taking turns to give a brief summary of their businesses, exchange business cards and leaflets and then move on to meet new people. There isn’t time for awkward pauses or speechless moments! Each person has a chance to say something interesting, informative and fun to liven up the conversation. Once you have met everybody and collected all of their contact cards, you can then reconnect with those you wanted to talk to in more detail.

Make your speed networking experience a success

The challenge with speed networking is being remembered once it’s over. It’s easier to remember the last three people we met than, the first three.

It’s easy to pick people who come unprepared to speed networking events. They don’t clearly describe their interests, what they have done or currently do, their delivery is uninspiring and they run out of business cards or don’t bring a pen to the event.

Expanding your business contacts can be one of the best ways to expand your business.
