The Lodge, whose members raised the money at monthly meetings, have supported Phyllis Tuckwell for over 20 years. The donations they have made over this time have helped the charity in its work to provide supportive and end of life care for patients and relatives facing a terminal illness, such as cancer.

Each year, the money raised by members of the Fearnhamme Freemasons Lodge is donated to a charity chosen by that year’s Master of the Lodge, which in 2015 was Clive Bradbrook. Mr Bradbrook chose to support Phyllis Tuckwell and, accompanied by the Lodge’s Charity Steward, Barrie Huggins, came to the Hospice in Farnham to present the charity with a cheque. Mr Bradbrook and Mr Huggins were met by Community Fundraiser Charli Quay-Barnham, who took them on a tour of the Hospice building so that they could see the work which their generous donations have helped to fund.

Every day Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 patients and relatives – at the Hospice in Farnham, the Beacon Centre in Guildford and in patients’ own homes, through a mix of medical care, nursing, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support. However, as NHS/Government funding only covers 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £15,000 a day to be able to do this, which is why donations such as this are so important.

“We would like to thank Fearnhamme Lodge for this kind donation,” said Ms Quay-Barnham. “Their generosity and ongoing support are hugely important to us, and it is nice to be able to show them around the Hospice, so that they can see the services which donations such as these help make possible.”
