Farnham has many spooky stories which date back centuries and some of them may be inaccurate  or unbelievable. It is though impossible not to be drawn in to the extraordinary unexplained encounters in the town's pubs, castle, churches, homes and shops. What better time to explore and investigate than Halloween?

Here's a selection of tales to get you in the mood!

Farnham Library
Charles 1st had stayed in Farnham on a number of occasions and was granted permission to spend the night with a friend - Henry Vernon, before being taken to London for execution. Vernon House is now the site of Farnham Library and is thought to be the final resting place for his ghost, following the appearances of a figure dressed in 17th century clothing seen on the staircase.

St. Andrews Church
Various strange activities have been recorded at St. Andrews Church, including prayers and singing and the ghosts of two ladies have also been witnessed. One is an elderly lady who appears at the alter end of the church and then vanishes and the other a is a white lady who throws herself from the tower although there is no documentation of a suicide.

Farnham Castle
Farnham Castle is now a conference centre but it has never been short of visitors including the supernatural kind. It is apparently home to a ghostly monk, children have been observed running the length of the upper balcony and voices have been heard in the Great Hall. The guardroom is haunted by a shadowy figure, a young girl dances on the staircase and in the cellar, a soldier who was shot in the face causes visitors to experience face-aches. It is said that you can hear a bell that was once housed in the keep, tolling.

Caffe Piccolo and Kall Kwik Printers
Pop into Caffe Piccolo in West Street and owner, Darius has a wealth of information about the building's history and stories of paranormal activity. One example of this is the apparition of a lady in the restaurant which then passes away into the wall. It is thought that an explanation for this haunting relates to a young officer who bid farewell to his love who resided at the premises. He left to fight at the Battle of Waterloo but sadly did not return and she died of a broken heart.

Poltergeist activity has also been reported at Kall kwik Printers next door. On many occasions items are mysteriously moved from one location to another overnight! None of the things moved are ever damaged and the staff have learned to live with these mischievous happenings.
