Dash of Colour has now become a regular part of the charity’s fundraising calendar, highlighting the colour which the Hospice Care charity brings to the lives of its patients and their families, as it cares for and supports them through the most difficult of times.

Dash proved its popularity once again this year, when 1,200 participants of all ages ran, jogged or walked the five kilometre route, to raise funds for the charity, many of them taking part in memory of a loved one whom Phyllis Tuckwell had cared for. Hundreds more turned up to volunteer and spectate, and an incredible 900kg of paint was thrown – covering participants and volunteers alike! All those who took part received a medal, a goodie bag and a piece of fruit at the finishing line, and completed the course with their once-white t-shirts all colours of the rainbow!

“We would like to thank everyone who took part in this fantastic, colourful event,” said Laura Moody, Events Fundraising Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “Without your help we just couldn’t provide the care we give to our patients and their families. The sponsorship money is still coming in – so far we have raised an amazing £37,000!”

Phyllis Tuckwell would like to thank all those who helped to make the day the success that it was, particularly the Greenspace team at Frimley Lodge Park and the sponsors who each manned one of the six paint stations: Cane Adams – the main sponsors of the event, Premier Panel Skills, Nuffield Health, Branston Adams, Red Mist Leisure, ProjectFive and Morrisons Law. Thanks also to the Spar at Elstead for providing the water for all the participants, The Window Cleaning Company for helping with the mammoth task of washing away the paint that was used and Paul Fitchett Images for taking photos throughout the day.

All of the money raised will help fund the supportive and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for patients and families affected by cancer or other serious progressive illnesses. Every day its staff and volunteers support over 250 patients and relatives, through a mix of medical care, nursing, therapies, counselling, social work and practical support. However, as the NHS/Government funding which the charity receives only covers 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £15,000 a day – something which fundraising events such as Dash of Colour contribute significantly to.
