Local charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care has recently received a donation of £250 from Farnham Brass Band, who raised the money just before Christmas, when they gathered together in the Lion and Lamb Yard in Farnham to play a selection of carols and traditional Christmas songs.

The money will go directly towards helping fund the supportive and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for local patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.

“We would like to thank all of the members of Farnham Brass Band for this wonderful donation and for choosing us as their Christmas Charity” said Charli Quay-Barnham, Community Fundraising Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “£250 could pay for eight sessions with one of our highly-qualified Physiotherapists, whose expert support and advice can help patients to live their lives as fully as possible as their illness progresses.”

“We chose Phyllis Tuckwell as our Christmas Charity for 2019 because of its excellent work supporting the local community, enabling people with an advanced or terminal illness to live well,” said Roz Forsyth. “Farnham Brass Band are always looking for new members, young or old, so please get in touch if you’d like to join us.”

Every day, Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers - in their own homes, in the community, at the Hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford - through medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support. However, as the NHS/Government only covers 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £20,000 a day to do this, and therefore relies heavily on the support and generosity of the local community.
