Blue Monday?
17th January 2011

It may be Blue Monday – supposedly the most miserable day of the year – but a survey of what really makes people happy promises relief for anyone suffering from a seasonal low.

Christmas debt, bad weather (true, it’s pouring down as I write this!) and broken New Year’s resolutions conspire to make January 17th the most miserable day of the year, psychologists have calculated.

But if you’re feeling down than take heart …. Warm weather and a healthy bank balance are not necessarily the key to feeling good!

ActionAid asked a thousand people what made them feel happiest and the most popular response was helping someone who is in need. In second place was receiving an unexpected compliment.

ActionAid has also created a giant, heated “happy bubble” in the middle of London to remind people of the important things in life … Music, Food, Laughter, Massages and “Aura Paintings” for everyone. It’s in Finsbury Avenue Square from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm …..

The top ten answers were:

1 – Helping someone who needs you

2 – Receiving an unexpected compliment

3 – Hearing the sound of the sea

4 – Sitting in the sunshine (should be okay later this week!)

5 – Listening to music

6 – Eating your favourite food

7 – Hearing happy laughter

8 – Winning money

9 – Going for a walk on the beach

10 – Having a snowball fight!
