Surrey Air Ambulance
Responding swiftly to 999 calls, the Surrey Air Ambulance delivers specialist doctors and Critical Care Paramedics to accidents and emergencies and transports patients to hospitals and major trauma centres during daylight hours, 365 days a year.
As one of the most essential charitable organisations covering Farnham and the whole of Surrey, this charitable organisation relies almost entirely on the generosity of local people to keep the helicopter flying.
Having launched in 2005, Surrey was one of the few counties in the UK that didn't have its own Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for everyone living, working and travelling through the county until June 2007.
Common call-outs include road traffic collisions, cardiac arrests, falls from height and fallen horse riders and mountain bike riders in inaccessible areas. Wherever it lands, the aircraft is never more than seven minutes away from an A&E hospital or a maximum of 38 minutes from the regional trauma centre. This allows patients to be treated within the "Golden Hour" which can mean the difference between life and death.
The life-saving charity is based at Dunsfold Park near Guildford and relies almost entirely on voluntary public donations and needs £1.7m-a-year to keep the helicopter flying. Each flying mission alone costs between £1,500 and £2,000.

It was really nice to have the chance to meet everyone who helped me and say a huge thank you for saving my life.
Thanks to their quick response, Chris’s recovery was faster than it might otherwise have been.
It’s an excellent service and I was surprised that it was self-funding. I just assumed it was part of the NHS.
