An exciting interactive event is coming to Paignton Zoo during half term. Zoo Quest is the latest in a series of creative outdoor adventures devised by young people and local performance artists.

Led by Play Torbay and produced by local children, the theme is the history of the Zoo and the story of its eccentric founder, Herbert Whitley. Quest is a new way of exploring histories, myths and tales, taking the audience on a promenade performance with film, animation and song.

Play Torbay’s Tanny Stobart: “This is an amazing adventure for everyone, supported by the Arts Council, Children in Need, Paignton Zoo and many local sponsors. Some fabulous local artists have helped the children to create the show around Paignton Zoo's history, with songs and music, drama, arts and crafts, film and digital animation. It’s going to be lots of fun and simply unmissable!”

Zoo Quest lasts approximately 2 hours, with the young Quest Builders guiding and involving audience members young and old. People make props to wear themselves and discover stories from the Zoo’s past.

“Watch out for a nasty poacher and keep an eye on the little blue chicken... but you’ll have to join us to find out more!” The young Quest Builders, working with the artists, researched the subject, wrote the storyline and the script and made their own costumes.

Zoo Quest takes place on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of October half term. Performances start at 2.00 pm and last around 2 hours. Booking is essential. Children aged 5-15 must be accompanied by an adult.

If you just want to come in for the performance, tickets are £5 for adults, £3.50 for children (aged 5-15 years). If you want to enjoy the Zoo all day, then normal entry prices apply. Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is a registered charity. For more information go to www.paigntonzoo.org.uk or ring 01803 697500.
