The drop-in event has been organised by the Exeter Private Rental Forum in partnership with Exeter City Council, Citizens Advice Exeter, Devon & Somerset Trading Standards Service and Cartridges Law and will be held in Bedford Square, Princesshay, between 11am and 2pm.
A stall will provide details of what resources are available to people who rent, and where to turn to for help and advice if there are problems. There will be information on landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities and general housing advice. Trading Standards Officers will also have information on staying safe in the home and advice on avoiding rogue traders and scams. They will be giving out “No Cold Callers” door stickers and free copies of their directories of trusted traders that are members of the national ‘Buy With Confidence’ scheme.
Housing experts will be available to answer any queries and offer advice. Free information and resources will be available for both tenants and landlords including the City Council’s recently launched Private Tenant Guide.
Cllr Morse, Lead Councillor for Customer Access, said: "The Exeter Private Rental Forum aims to support and inform local landlords and tenants to give them a better understanding of their respective rights and responsibilities, and also where to go for information and advice if things go wrong.
“In the last decade the number of households that rent privately has doubled and the Forum wants to encourage a local private rented sector that allows good landlords and agents to thrive, and offers peace of mind to tenants so that they can access decent and affordable accommodation.”
