Volunteers from Exmouth Beach Rescue Club have recently received a cheque for just under £3,500 from local seafood restaurant, Rockfish.
A total of £3,498.50 has been raised for the voluntary lifesaving club through table donations since the restaurant opened in January.
The money will be used to purchase new rescue boards and other lifesaving equipment, as well as new training equipment for the club’s junior members.
Mitch Tonks, owner of the Devon-based Rockfish restaurant chain, said: “Sitting in Rockfish and watching the tide rip by, I see the sailors, kite boarders, people playing on the beach or launching their boats and think to myself we are lucky to have the Exmouth Beach Rescue Club guys on hand in case anything goes wrong. This donation is entirely optional but clearly many of our guests feel the same about the rescue club as we do. It’s a pleasure to be able to support them through donations like this.”
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the club, Ashley Jones said: “We are very lucky that Mitch and his team at Rockfish chose to support us at their Exmouth restaurant, and we are truly grateful to all those who have donated to the club when paying their bill. We are completely voluntary and rely on donations and grants to keep going – this cheque will go a long way to improve the kit we have available for both training and lifesaving.”
