The Right Reverend Sarah Mullally DBE, 55, Bishop of Crediton in Devon and Vice President of local charity Hospiscare, made history last month when she was appointed as the first female Bishop of London, making her the most senior woman bishop appointed by the Church of England.

Bishop Sarah, a former nurse, held various nursing leadership roles at hospitals across London, working in the NHS for over 35 years.  In 2005 she became a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition for her contribution to nursing and midwifery.

Ordained as a deacon in 2001 and then as a priest in 2002, she has been Bishop of Crediton in the Diocese of Exeter since July 2015. Since November 2015 Bishop Sarah has been a Vice President of local charity Hospiscare, who support terminally ill patients and their families in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Glynis Atherton, Hospiscare’s Chief Executive, commented:

“We are absolutely delighted to hear this news.  Bishop Sarah has been a committed Vice President to Hospiscare and a tremendous support.  Huge congratulations and we all wish her well.”
