MFRS has just taken on the statutory duty in Mauritius for all ‘working at height’ rescues, for both urban and rural environments.

To facilitate this new service, MFRS has established an operational  “high angle rope access” team, consisting of 5 on-duty fire-fighters, available 24 hours a day, capable of responding quickly to any Specialist Rescue incidents across the island.

The Red One Rope Rescue Operator course introduces the knowledge and skills required by personnel to operate safely and effectively during rope rescues and be an active part of a rope rescue team working under the supervision of Rope Rescue Technicians. Accredited by Rescue 3 Europe to NFPA standards, the course is delivered by Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service (DSFRS) Training Academy staff.

Red One provided two 5 day courses of 15 students per course at the Port Louis training facility of Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service and will be returning again later in 2016 to deliver further Rope Rescue Technician training for the team.

Rescue 3 Accredited NFPA Rope Rescue Operative Training

As an accredited training provider of  ‘Rescue 3′, the Red One/DSFRS course trains personnel from Fire & Rescue Services to perform safe, effective rescues from height.   This in-depth course teaches delegates everything they require to become skilled and confident Rope Rescue Operatives.

Delivered through the DSFRS Academy Access and Rescue School, the aim of this course is to provide the delegate with all the necessary expertise to enable them to manage and safely perform a successful Rope Rescue. Delegates learn through practical exercises, where they receive feedback from course instructors and from the other course attendees; this allows the delegates to safely and confidently participate in Rope Rescue incidents.
