RACING returns to Exeter Racecourse next Thursday (October 6) and the course is celebrating with a host of one off giveaways as well as a strong six race card.

Horses come under starters’ orders at 2.20pm but prior to that every racegoer will have received a free packet of Burts Chips, a £10 voucher for Coal + Grill at Exeter’s Princesshay and a £5 voucher for Leonard Coombe Master Saddlers and Country Life.

General manager Alice Everitt explained: “We have a four month break at Exeter and it always seems a long time with no racing. We are so pleased to be back in action we thought we’d celebrate by giving our racegoers a little something extra.”

Prize money amounts to more than £25,0000 with Bathwick Tyres, a long term sponsor of racing,  taking the name of the opening novices’ hurdle run over 2m1f. Last year’s winner was the smart Dunraven Storm and this year’s renewal looks likely to unveil another future star.

Wayne and Sarah Clifford, who own Bathwick Tyres, also sponsor the 2m3f Bathwick Tyres Plymouth Handicap Hurdle and the conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle.

With  the track a real favourite among the country’s leading trainers who use it as a launch pad for their potentially top class horses the  Atass Solar Host Beginners’ Steeple Chase  could well attract some classy competition. Run over three miles, staying chasers will be lining up to learn the ropes of jump racing.

Also on the card is the Western Electrical Novice Handicap Hurdle and the Ilfracombe Food Service 3m handicap chase.

Alice Everitt added : “We are very excited about the new season and look forward to welcoming everyone back. We regularly have top class horses here, like Master Minded, Denman and Kauto Star and we  are very lucky that horses of that calibre come to Exeter. It means people in the Westcountry can see the country’s very best in action.”
