Happy New Year to Everyone!

My name is Nigel “The Wine Guy”. Over the coming weeks and months I will endeavour to guide readers of this blog along the wide and very diverse road which is the world of wines. I hope you will all come along with me and find out more about this fascinating subject which has become a large part of my life over the past 7 years.

In 2005 my wife and I visited Australia. As part of our holiday we decided to visit the famous Hunter Valley wine region, not far from Sydney. This area (as we now know) is one of the major wine producing regions of that great land. Being an inquisitive type of person I found our visit left me with more questions than answers on the subject of wine, so on our return I decided to find out all I could about wine and its production methods.

In the following years I have progressed to become a Wine & Spirits Education Trust Diploma holder, judging at International Wine Competitions in London, working in local vineyards, assisting in the making of English wines, giving talks and vineyard tours for a local vineyard, educating others through our local wine group and much, much more.

It has opened up a whole new world for me and hopefully I can pass on some of that knowledge to you, the readers and help you make educated choices on wines you may wish to buy. Who knows you might even decide to find out more, as I have.

With the help of this blog I would like to explain the many aspects of wine from vine to bottle and will be looking at such subjects as: - production methods, vineyard operations, grape varieties, worldwide producing regions and much more. Also I will be able to give an insight into the English Wine scene which is growing in popularity.

Watch out for my future instalments when I will be recommending wines to anyone who is looking for good value buys; to match with food or just to chill out with when watching the TV. These wines will be sourced locally and at an affordable price, so please try them and let me know what you think.

This is an introduction to me and how I see this blog running. I’m off to open a bottle of Syrah from the Rhone Valley now so please tune in again soon to hear more from Nigel “The Wine Guy” and remember – please drink responsibly.......

Regards Nigel
