New internet service provider Jurassic Fibre and South West Communications Group (swcomms) have officially launched an ultrafast fibre internet service for businesses.

Companies, within phase one of Jurassic Fibre’s gigabit network, were invited to the event held at Sandy Park on Tuesday, to learn about the ultrafast broadband packages now available.

Phase one of the network includes Exeter Airport, Sowton Industrial Estate, the eastern side of Exeter and nearby villages, including Clyst St Mary, Clyst St George, Sowton village, Farringdon, Lympstone and Woodbury, and then south to Exmouth.  It also includes the Greendale and Hill Barton business parks.

The event opened with a welcome speech from swcomms’ managing director Brian Lodge who said: “We are excited about the amazing potential of this new service. swcomms has partnered with Jurassic Fibre to combine the incredible speeds of their fibre to the premises network with the business services that are required to get the best from that connection.

“Their network will benefit businesses across the county. With the Government emphasis on connectivity, this new partnership can ensure the West Country is seen to be leading the way.”

Jurassic Fibre CEO Michael Maltby, who spoke to businesses at the event, said:For the first time businesses will be able to boost productivity and truly maximise their digital potential with fibre all the way to their premises. We are now providing some of the fastest and most reliable digital connectivity available anywhere in the UK.

“We’ve developed a range of exciting ultrafast broadband packages for businesses. We’ve listened to the business community and their frustrations with current providers, and that’s why we’re giving them flexible packages, offering speeds of up to 10Gbps combined with fantastic and locally-based customer service support.

Lastly, swcomms’ Colin Woods discussed the wider benefits of improved connectivity for businesses with the ability to utilise more cloud applications, hosted telephony and other communications tools to increase productivity, save on resources and generate more online sales.

The first business and residential customers have been signing up in recent weeks.

Chef Michael Caines MBE was one of the first to sign up for Jurassic Fibre’s connectivity for Lympstone Manor, allowing its staff and guests to benefit from gigabit internet speeds that are unheard of in this business sector.

He said: "I am delighted to be the first Jurassic Fibre swcomms business customer. It’s wonderful to see two local companies working together to offer an unparalleled service. We pride ourselves on providing guests at Lympstone Manor with the best of everything, and that now includes ultrafast fibre broadband."
