On Thursday 30 September The Maynard School in Exeter welcomed Head Girls and their teams from across the South West to the annual Girls’ School Association (GSA) Head Girls Conference 2010, sponsored by Foot Anstey Solicitors.

The Head Girls’ conference was an opportunity for Head Girls and their teams from girls’ schools across the region to work together and take part in group tasks and challenges.

The theme of the day was ‘The Courage of Leadership’, and featured inspirational talks and workshops by special guest Rebecca Stephens MBE, the first British woman to climb Everest & the Seven Summits, as well as Sally Walters, an Old Maynardian & the Young Women Engineer of the Year 2009 and Lawyer Karen Bates of Foot Anstey Solicitors. The delegates were also assigned an ‘Apprentice’-style challenge during the course of the day in which they had to lead and manage a project as a team.

Headmistress Bee Hughes said, “This is the first time we have hosted the GSA Head Girls’ Conference, and it was a great success. The development of leadership skills is a fundamental aspect to any aspirant young professional and the girls who attended found the day inspiring and motivational. We are most grateful to all speakers and colleagues who have helped in preparing this conference, and to Foot Anstey for supporting the event.”
