The Maynard School’s U14 and U15 basketball teams beat the opposition in the latest rounds of the National Schools Competition and are through to the National Schools Quarter Finals and Finals respectively.
In what is effectively the U14’s first competitive season, they beat St Johns School, Wiltshire in a tight game last week to make it through to the National Quarter-Final stage.
The U15 team meanwhile played brilliantly in their Regional match beating Aylesbury High School, the very team that had knocked them out of the competition at the same stage last year, and went on to play Woking High in the quarter finals last week. They won 41-35 and will now attend the ‘Final Four’ National Finals in Nottingham on 14 May.
PE teacher Cathy Gabbitass said ‘Both teams faced stiff competition in their recent matches and I am extremely proud of all the girls that took part. It’s an absolutely incredible achievement to get through to the National Finals. I was also very impressed with the loud and enthusiastic support given on both home matches last week! Fantastic! Good luck to all the girls in the next stages of the competition.’
