The Maynard School in Exeter is hosting the next concert in the popular Maynard Concert Series, this time by soprano Isobel Buchanan.
The international soloist will be performing on Saturday 2 April at 8pm (with a champagne reception at 7.30pm). Isobel is a leading soprano of her generation, having appeared in opera houses in Cologne, Paris, Munich, Chicago (with Pavarotti and Bergonzi) and Monte Carlo (with Raimondi). She has also appeared with all the major British orchestras and has collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors. The evening recital will follow a journey through the northern hemisphere from East to West (encompassing Russia, Scandinavia, Scotland and England) with beautiful songs interleaved with evocative piano solos, by such composers as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Grieg and Frank Bridge.
There will also be a masterclass at 3pm offering budding vocalists the chance to work with Isobel and gain advice on technique. The masterclass will include complimentary tea and cake for all those attending.
Maynard Headmistress Bee Hughes said ‘The Maynard Concert Series has been really successful and we are delighted to be able to continue it into 2011. The masterclasses are a great opportunity for young musicians to learn from the professionals, and we welcome singers from across Exeter and Devon to come along and benefit from this enriching opportunity to learn from Isobel Buchanan.’
Tickets for the concerts cost £15 each (£7.50 for students) and include a champagne Reception before the concert. Tickets for the masterclasses cost £15 (£7.50 for students).

Any funds raised from the ticket sales will go towards funding The Maynard’s music scholarship programme to enable talented students a place at the school.
