Heritage revealed - Urgent Appeal from Dartington Hall Trust
2nd September 2016

Unless we raise £12,300 in donations by 15 September, we will lose a large grant offered to us. Heritage Revealed promises to be something truly amazing. Two years in the planning, we are looking to conserve the medieval Deer Park area in a beautiful but largely hidden corner of the estate. The place is steeped in history, rich in biodiversity and is officially listed as heritage at risk.We need to conserve and protect the crumbling walls. We need to improve public access paths and walks around the site. We need to provide informative, exciting and inspiring installations for visitors. We will introduce an outdoor education programme for schools and a series of family activity days. We will create new volunteering opportunities. And much more. With your help, we can do all this and the Deer Park will get a new lease of life. You’d be playing a vital part in helping to safeguard 700 years of history and developing the site as a place of awe and beauty for visitors of all ages to enjoy. We are thrilled to have been offered major grants towards the project from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Natural England and the Viridor Credits Environmental Company. Alongside The Dartington Hall Trust’s own contribution, we have reached almost £1m needed to make this project a reality. But that’s not the end of the story. As a condition of accessing a £120,000 grant from Viridor Credits (via the Landfill Communities Fund), we must ‘match fund’ just over 10% of it independently. That means finding a final £12,300. The rules state clearly that Dartington and other project partners cannot use their own funds as the match funding, so we are asking for your help. Please would you make a donation today? Every £1 you donate will release almost £10 in grant funding to help save a nationally significant part of cultural heritage here in Devon for now and for generations to come. Donations made will be used as ‘Third Party Contributions’ in order to leverage the Landfill Communities Fund grant from Viridor Credits Environmental Company. Please note that donations used for this purpose are not eligible for Gift Aid.John Lockwood, CEO of Viridor Credits Environmental Company: ‘The Dartington Hall project gives our trustees a rare opportunity to contribute to the rescue of a nationally important heritage site that has strong community involvement and a diverse ecology. The vision of the Trust and the use of volunteers were key to securing funding and I look forward to completing a successful project with them all.’ You can also donate by cheque - please make payable to The Dartington Hall Trust and send to: Heritage Revealed Appeal, Dartington Hall Trust, The Granary, Dartington, Totnes TQ9 6EL.

Thank you.
