The Proclamation of Lammas Fair takes place at 12 noon on Friday (18 July) at the Guildhall. Originating from before the Norman Conquest, the Lord Mayor's procession of the Lammas Glove, includes civic dignitaries and local school children, some in period costume. This year the Lord Mayor will also be joined by Russian Delegates and the Sobinov Childrens Orchestra from Exeter’s twinned city of Yaroslavl.
They will set off from Southernhay at 10.50am and travel down the High Street to the Guildhall where the proclamation will be read by the Lord Mayor. The Lammas Glove will be erected above the Guildhall. This year, the City Council will be bringing out the Sheriff’s Coach.
This year’s celebrations will be linked to Photography World, a two day event taking place in Princesshay on 18 and 19 July. People will have a chance to take photographs of a variety of subjects being provided and enter the pictures into competitions. The event marks the 40th anniversary of The Isca Historical Photographic Collection.
The proclamation of the Lammass Fair will also be read out in Princesshay at 11am as part of this event.
