Exeter YMCA, in partnership with Exeter City Football Club, will be joining other YMCAs across England in a mass sleep-out event on Saturday 3 March 2012, to help beat youth homelessness. And they want the entire community to get involved too.

Exeter YMCA is calling for people from across the city to take part in the YMCA Sleep Easy event taking place at Exeter City Football Club in St James’ Park. The event will start at 8pm and finish at 7am the next day, with participants having the chance to build their own shelter in the Cardboard City Challenge before bedding down for the night.  Teas and coffees will be available through the night to keep people warm, and there will be a light breakfast available in the early morning.

Frances Farley, Director of Exeter City Football Club, says “We are delighted to be able to host this event. As a community club owned by its fans, we are committed to making a difference in our city and it’s brilliant to be able to partner with Exeter YMCA in order to help tackle youth homelessness locally. I, for one, will be sleeping on the Big Bank that night to support this campaign.”

Already 65 participants have signed up to take part, and Exeter YMCA is hoping that more will during this week leading up to the event. Last year, the Exeter YMCA Sleep Easy event raised over £10,000 for their work providing 15,000 nights accommodation and support a year for homeless young people in Devon.

Sleep Easy participants can expect not only a night sleeping under the stars to raise money to help homeless young people, but guaranteed fun as well as inspiration from hearing fantastic first-hand stories from young people whose lives have been turned around by the work of our housing team. We promise you a night you will remember for a long, long time!

thebestof Exeter Client Services Director, Dave Barr will be taking part in the Sleep Easy event at Exeter City Football Club. Dave said that taking part in the event is a great way that he can help raise awareness of youth homelessness in Exeter and also the great work that the Exeter YMCA do in the city.
