Planning applications for new IKEA and Morrisons stores in Exeter have been put on hold for a week.

Exeter City Council said today (10 January) that it still had to notify a number of objectors to the schemes that the meeting was taking place.

Richard Short, Assistant Director City Development, said: "We contact all objectors when the Planning Committee meeting agenda is published to give them an opportunity to come along and listen to the debate and to let them know there is an opportunity for an objector and supporter to speak.

"It appears that not all the notfications have gone out in time due to the Christmas and New Year break. . We want to give the public adequate notice so we have defered these applications by a week to a new date of Monday 20 January. I apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused. A special meeting on these items will allow a bit more time for consideration of these important decisions."
