Both parties have signed an agreement formalising the sharing of information and communications between the two organisations.
It is hoped the alliance will further develop the constructive working relationship between the two parties.
The Students' Guild has agreed to inform the City Council of key campaign priorities of the elected officer team on an annual basis. It has also promised to share any concerns of City Council service provision, inform students of forthcoming elections and work alongside the Council and other organisations to address issues facing the city.
In return the City Council will endeavour to communicate directly with the Guild on proposed policy changes that will impact the lives of students and work closely with the Guild to engage students in addressing the key issues facing Exeter.
Council Leader Pete Edwards, said: "The University plays a huge part in Exeter life, not just economically but culturally and through diversity. We already have a good working relationship with the University and the Guild but this will ensure that we are better sharing information for the good of everyone living in this great city."
Chris Rootkin, Vice President Welfare and Community, at the University of Exeter Students' Guild, said: "The Students’ Guild has been privileged to work with Exeter City Council over many years and I look forward to this agreement bringing our two organisations even closer together in future. As the representative body for Exeter’s large student population, there will be many opportunities for us to work collaboratively to involve students more closely in local concerns for the benefit of all."
