"Shows like the Devon County Show are incredibly important in showcasing all strands of farming and food, highlighting the importance of what farmers do and demonstrating the amazing tapestry of rural life", he said.
He praised the Devon Farm Business Awards, which are organised by a partnership of the Devon County Agricultural Association, the Addington Fund and Stephens Scown, reflecting "a deep sense of pride" in Devon's rural heritage and the quality of its farming and food.
"I encourage you to continue to lead the way in innovation, entrepreneurship and agricultural progress", he said.
The Commissioner said he was particularly pleased that the awards included 'Best Woman in Devon Farming' and 'Best Young Farmer'.
"Young farmers hold the future of this industry in their hands, and we have to support them every step of the way. One of my priorities in my term of office is to see what we can do to create better conditions for the next generation of farmers."
