Dragon Boat Challenge  11th July

It’s the World Cup Final on Sunday July 11th, but as England  are out, let’s forget about that and concentrate on the day’s big local event the 3rd Annual Dream-A-Way Dragon Boat Challenge. Exeter’s Lord Mayor Councillor Marcel Choules is entering a team called Marcel’s Mates “ I’m looking forward to banging that big drum!” said Marcel who is also pleased that Dream-A-Way Chairman Jeff Merrett has agreed that the sponsorship money raised by Marcel’s team will be split 50/50 with the Lord Mayor’s Charity, and that he will be officiating at the start of the day’s racing at 9.30am at Exeter Quay.

There are some teams who are back for their third year including the Woodheads from Woodbury Park and the teams from Exeter’s Timepiece nightclub and John Gandy’s. Second timers include last year’s  top fundraisers On the Waterfront and making their Dragon Boat debut this year are teams from Exminster Hair & Beauty, Home & Away (St Petrocks), The Slow Boat to China(Bishop Blaize), The Chevaliers (Wetherspoons) and The Wet Bandits!

Dream-A-Way events organiser Gill Freeman said "It’s great that a number of teams are coming back for a second or third year, and of course there is still time to enter, but please get in touch as soon as possible so that you can get some practice  and raise as much sponsorship money as possible. This year we are delighted to be working in partnership with Haven Banks Education Centre, Devon Youth Services and local Dragon Boat Club Exe-Calibre , so we are looking forward to a really great day and are hoping to build on the successful events of the last two years”.

If you would like to enter a team, as a family or an individual you can find full details at the website www.dream-a-way.co.uk . So why not take part in an exciting and enjoyable challenge, and even if you cannot enter yourself, make a note of the date because it will be a great spectator event and a fantastic day out for all the family at Exeter Quay.
