Organisers of the Devon County Show are hosting the annual Lamb Shearing at Sidbury, near Sidmouth.

Entry is free and the line-up features some of the most talented shearers and sheep dog handlers in the country.

Show Secretary Ollie Allen said the shearing competitions were sure to be fast-paced and packed with action and drama.

She added: “Everyone is welcome to come along to see the rising stars of shearing take on the champions in what is sure to be a thoroughly enjoyable day on one of the most beautiful farms in the county.”

Sheep play an important part in Devon agriculture with nearly 5,000 farms* keeping flocks. The county accounts for 45 per cent of the South West sheep flock and 9.3 per cent the English flock.

The event is being held by the kind permission of Sir John and Lady Cave and Alan Derryman.

In brief:

  • Home Farm, Sidbury is on the A375 Honiton to Sidmouth road; follow the event signs
  • Entrance cost – FREE for all visitors
  • Competitions start from approximately 9.30 am and carry on through until approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.
